I still find night interesting and it’s such a broad subject that I could go anywhere with it!
I was checking out the KQED Science website and the headline that caught my attention was How Electric Light Changed the Night.
The overall gist of this source was that not all light is good for us. Electric light has basically altered our lives, bodies and the very nature of our sleep.
A recurring question that pops up in my head is why do human beings tend to go out at night? In this video, it points out that our ancestors would limit their activities when the sun went down since “uncertainty and danger” lurked in the darkness and it also points out that we’ve always rebelled against the darkness.
That’s why there’s new types of lights.
As we have evolved so has our source of light! We’ve found different ways of socializing with each other at whatever time of day and making it convenient as well.
One thing that fascinated me was the fact that they found it more harmful that lights enables us to be more active at any time of the day or night instead of the chemical impact it has to our bodies.
According to Web MD Melatonin is:
And the blue lights which can come from the light of a tablet can suppress our bodies’ flow of melatonin and encourages us to be alert which causes us to have less sleep. Would this result be the same for other kinds of electric light? A Stanford professor called Jamie Zeitzer, who is a sleep researcher strongly believes that electric light has long-term consequences for our health but has yet to determine those consequences. How would it effect our long-term health and if we do sleep the recommended amount would it still effect our health?
Hello there, my name is Anahy! I come from a single-parent household and am the youngest of my 3 siblings. I was born in Orange County but lived in Oregon and Mexico for a while until me and my mom settled in Old Magalia with my stepdad at age 3.
I’m a quiet, kind and open-minded female.
It’s crazy to think how much I’ve changed.
I remember just being a quiet, shy, good girl.
Then I met the right group of friends that I could be myself around and they just brought out my wild side. haha.
I’m passionate about helping people which is probably why I’m in Alpha Phi Omega, a national co-ed service fraternity and also why I’m going into the Social Work field.
One thing I can’t go a day without is music!
It energizes me, it relaxes me, it motivates me.
Wherever I go there’s always some kind of music playing.
So many of my favorite memories include a song or more
Apart from music, what intrigued me is
I believe I’ve always been more of night owl. Why? Probably because I’m not a morning person. I always get crap about being lazy but I own it because I know I get my stuff done when I need to. I always wondered why people tend to go out at night, why some feel more energetic or safe at night.
